10 Birthday Cake Toppers Sure to Surprise and Delight

Delightful Free Printable Easter Cupcake Toppers

Say goodbye to piping bags and fussy frosting! These DIY birthday cake toppers take any dessert to the next level, including tiny pennant garlands to pom-poms and personalized candles.

Birthday parties have quite the to-do list: Deciding on the theme, decorations, and activities makes the days leading up to the event seem part of the celebration itself.

It needn't be elaborate—kids will be happy with a small party as long as they are made to feel special.

Yet even a simple party requires planning; the sooner you start organizing, the earlier the excitement begins and the fewer details you'll have to work out on the day itself.

The birthday child will ly have ideas about the kind of party he wants, so involve him in the planning. Let your child pick the theme, help you with shopping and decorating, and take part in baking the cake. As part of the fun, let him pick out his toppers.

These can be candles that spell out his name, announce his new age, or or his latest fascination with dinosaurs. (Or, echo the metallic decorations on the table and around the room with these silvery flower- and star-shaped bases for cake candles as shown here.

) Baking and decorating your child's birthday cake (or cupcakes) is worth the effort. Spend time on that, and choose other foods that are easy to serve, eat, and clean up.

Doing so helps spread out the anticipation; that way the focus isn't on a couple of hours of a single day.

Although it might be more efficient to do it all yourself, there's pleasure in working with your child toward an important goal. Plus, he'll have the reward of enjoying with his friends the magical day he helped plan.

The birthday boy is begging for a cake topped with his beloved prehistoric creatures (or zoo pals or superheroes). You want one that will delight taste buds young and old.

Our party-pleasing compromise: Grab a handful of birthday-candle holders and some prized figurines: protoceratopses, sharks, unicorns. Snip the spikes off the bottom of the holders, glue the bases to the tops of the toys, and insert candles.

Arrange them on a cake iced with our fudgy three-ingredient frosting, and make everyone's wishes come true.

It's hard to improve on a cupcake, except perhaps with a bright pom-pom topper. Simply punch out cornflowers from kraft paper using a craft punch.

Use the pointed end of skewers to pierce center of cornflowers. Dab hot glue at each cornflower center, and affix one pom-pom to each cornflower and skewer.

Slide cornflower skewers into the cupcake tops, and guests will be ready for their first bite.

These handmade beeswax candles—shaped from cookie cutters—shine a warm light on any birthday celebration. For each candle, cut out 4 of the same letter from beeswax sheets, using cookie cutters. If the wax is hard to handle, soften it using hair dryer (on low). Make 2 stacks of 2 letters.

Press a toothpick vertically into a single stack. Vertically press in the end of the candlewick above the toothpick, so the toothpick and the wick meet. Trim the wick to 1 inch above the top of the letter.

Press the second stack of letters down on top, sandwiching the toothpick and wick between them; press to join the stacks of letters together.

These mini ever-waving flags make any treat—be it a cake, cupcake, or cocktail—fit for any celebration. Brush ribbon with fabric stiffener, then lay them on top of pencils to form the ripples.

To create bigger waves, place thicker tools— markers—under the ribbon as it dries. (Prevent sticking by placing plastic wrap between the ribbon and the tools.) Let them set overnight.

Snip wooden skewers at various lengths, then hot-glue the flags to wooden skewers and display your dessert with pride.

It's as easy as A-B-C to plan a party using the initial of the birthday child. Kids can help make the monogrammed cookies that adorn these cupcakes.

Make a picture-perfect cake (or cupcakes). Color-copy images onto card stock and affix back-to-back with double-sided tape around coffee stirrers.

Have extra cake batter left over? Make mini cupcakes topped with candles and add them to the birthday cake for an extra-special treat.

A cake adorned with silk-flower candleholders can double as a centerpiece at the table. Simply place flowers, minus their centers, on rounds of waxed paper and push the tacks into candles from underneath.

The best cake toppers (as little ones wholeheartedly would agree) are edible: Let pretzel-winged butterflies take flight on your next birthday cake or cupcakes. Their bodies—piped dots of blue buttercream—end in candy-coated-chocolate heads and licorice antennae.

Delightful Free Printable Easter Cupcake Toppers

When it comes to holidays I to take the easy approach by making plans ahead of time that are easy. Sometimes things end up last minute but, you can still pull it together with these tips for creating a last minute gathering. Just by setting a timeline and creating a checklist. This way you can focus on your guests, planned activities and fun the day of the gathering or holiday.

This year I have planned an Easter brunch. I’ll share how keeping it simple can be a great way to keep the stress level down and enjoy the entire day with family and friends.

My holiday time lines are very similar even for big events. A few days prior to the brunch I clean the house and only spot clean the morning of.

  • Plan a simple menu.
  • Include menu items that can be fixed ahead of time and heated the day of the gathering or brunch.
  • When grocery shopping pick up your flowers at the same time. Many grocery stores have floral departments.
  • Add a container inside a basket and use tissue paper for pops of color or use clear mason jars with flowers for pops of color, tie pretty ribbons around your jars add them to your table setting.
  • Create a buffet area for your brunch.
  • Set up your table by having the plates, silverware and napkins on one area of the table.
  • Set up a drink station with cups, spoons, sugar bowl and creamer containers for your favorite International Delight creamers.

For a simple meal plan:

  • Pick a meat you can pre cook and slice before everyone arrives arrange it on a pretty platter, cover and keep warm until serving
  • A large mixed green salad with dressings choices in pretty pouring containers. The salad can be made a day ahead, but reserve tomato and cucumbers to be added the day of.
  • Finger foods such as veggies and dip, crackers and cheese.
  • For a dessert cupcakes in pretty liners.
  • Print and cut these Cupcake Toppers I made just for you! Cut out images and glue a tooth pick toward bottom of image and in between the two images add to your cupcake. ( I use card stock paper and an extra strong hold glue stick )
  • Beverages coffee and tea
  • Always include your favorite International Delight creamer. My favorite creamer is International Delight’s French Vanilla. It gives beverages just the right amount of sweetness and flavor.
  • For Easter pre dye eggs and leave some un-dyed eggs for the kids to color and decorate. I also set up a area for the little ones to paint with watercolors. Later in the day after eating we hide eggs and let the kids enjoy the fun.

So, I started thinking about decorating. While I do love cake decorating, I needed something pretty simple for this year’s dessert. And, I wanted to share my choice with you. This free printable gives you the most adorable Easter cupcake toppers!

This printable is free – so you just have to print it off using a color printer. Once you have the images printed off, cut them out along the lines and attach them to a toothpick using a small piece of tape. You could also just lay these right on the top of your cupcakes if you prefer.

I recommend using thicker paper, cardstock for printing, so that the cupcake toppers are a bit sturdier. And, if you don’t want to make cupcakes, you could use these Easter cupcake toppers on top of a regular cake, too.

  • Cupcake Mix or Favorite Homemade Cupcake Recipe

What Icing Do You Use For Cake Toppers?

Bunny Cupcake Picks with FREE Printable Dowload!

Delightful Free Printable Easter Cupcake Toppers

In today’s post, I’m going to show you how I made printable Bunny Cupcake Picks to add color and fun to Easter treats. I’ll also share what you need to do to get the FREE printable. It’s time to get our craft on!

Bunny Cupcake / Dessert Picks:

Cupcakes are a treat for the eyes and the tummy. To up the fun factor even more, I to dress up my cupcakes for the season. That’s why I created these cute and colorful Bunny Cupcake Picks.

Don’t worry if you’re not serving cupcakes anytime soon. These picks will look great tucked into a cake, brownies, muffins, or even an appetizer. You could also attach them to straws as I did here.

These picks are simple to make. All you need is the printable (provided below), card stock, cutting tools, toothpicks, and a dab of glue.

To cut out things faster and ensure a clean cut every time, it’s handy to have a paper cutting machine. I used this Brother ScanNCut machine, which allowed me to scan my printable and then cut out the design. Any digital cutting machine, regardless of the brand, should have the capabilities to cut out all of the little bunnies and help you avoid finger cramps.

No cutting machine? Again, no worries! A pair of scissors or a craft knife will work just fine.

How to Make Bunny Cupcake / Dessert Picks:

You will need:

Start by downloading (The download details are below.) and then printing the free bunny printable. I recommend using a heavyweight paper card stock for this project.

Now that you have the printable, cut out each bunny. As I mentioned above, I used a paper cutting machine to achieve a precise cut, but scissors also work well.

When cutting out the bunnies, I to leave a narrow white border around each, but you’re welcome to cut them out any way you’d .

Once all the bunnies are cut, add a thin line of tacky glue to the back of each bunny and set a toothpick on the glue.

Allow the glue to try completely. Your bunny picks are now ready to go!

Completed: Easter Cupcake Picks

I told you these cupcake picks were an easy project. And, aren’t they adorable? I particularly love the style of the bunnies. They remind me of Peeps marshmallow bunnies. The range of colors is so joyful, too.

If bunnies aren’t your thing or you’re focused on a different holiday, you can use any royalty-free image to create picks that will suit your taste and celebration.
